EMS over 50

Stronger muscles and bones in 20 minutes, without the strain.

After 50, muscle, bone density and balance decline unless you load them. Heavy lifting is the usual answer, and the usual reason people stop. At P20 the EMS suit is the resistance, so you train standing, with a coach beside you, at an intensity set for you. Clients from 18 to 85 train here.

  • Strength and muscle without barbells, on simple standing movements.
  • Bone and joint friendly: low impact, no compressive loads through knees, hips or spine.
  • Balance and posture from deep stabilizing muscles that ordinary exercise rarely reaches.
  • One-on-one coaching every session, with intensity adjusted muscle group by muscle group.
  • Twenty minutes, once or twice a week. Nothing to bring. No gym membership needed.

Adapted for you

How a session is adapted for an older body

Your trainer starts every muscle group at a low intensity and raises it only as you adapt, so the first sessions feel like a firm, rhythmic contraction rather than a strain. Movements are a squat to a chair, a standing row, a step, a wall push: nothing on the floor unless you want it. Anything that hurts is turned down or out while the rest of the body keeps working.

What the research says

A published study of whole-body EMS in older women found reductions in body fat alongside strength gains (PubMed, 2013), and a 2020 review examined the efficacy and safety of whole-body EMS across ages (PubMed, 2020). We list more studies on the How It Works page.

Who should check with a doctor first

EMS is not for people with heart disease, pacemakers or other implanted electrical devices, or a history of seizures. After surgery, bring your surgeon's clearance; titanium plates and screws are not a barrier, as Barbara's story shows. Tell your trainer about blood pressure, diabetes or osteoporosis so the session is planned around it.
